Bad Samaritans book

Hey I am currently reading this book called Bad Samaritans. It is written by a South Korean who shows how free trade is actually hurting developing nations. It is definitely something I am really interested in. It is a book in the economics field and I was actually thinking about pursuing an economic minor while I am here at VCU. Art school and economics? I guess that is pretty unusual. Anyways the book goes on to say that what we need to do is offer protectionism to these developing nations called infant industry protectionism. His reasoning is just because you make money as an adult doesn’t mean you send your child out into the adult world. The child being the infant industry that is just starting up in a developed nation. Rather the nation needs to protect them from free trade. If japan didn’t do this way back after world war II, there wouldn’t be toyota now. They only survived through government protectionism.
