I saw Michael Moore’s new film this Friday and thought it was definitely an eye opening movie. One part that really hit home was video footage of FDR reading off a 2nd bill of rights. I had never heard about this and apparently the footage was lost until Michael Moore found it. This speech was given in 1944 and it talked about the right to a home, the right to medical care, the right to a job, and the right to a good education. The movie goes on to explain that FDR died shortly after and his 2nd bill of rights were never put in place. I really feel upset that for so long we have had to deal with this idea that people just have to work and they will get what they want. FDR saw it in the great depression that even if people want to work there may not be a job out there for them. This was 65 years ago and we are still arguing whether these are rights or not. It’s very sad.
